Most of us makeup artists began with the curiosity of “how”. It’s a natural process we all have of seeing something and wanting to “tweak” it to make it say, better, prettier, more colorful etc. Those of us that are self taught may have a gift but that doesn’t mean that we should stop there (please don’t stop there). Learning is something that we’re never too old for, never too seasoned, never too much of experts that we couldn’t use learning a new way of doing things.
Education is important in any field you work in. Keeping up with the times, the technology, the “new” is the only way to keep from becoming overlooked in our field. To keep from becoming irrelevant or lose out to another artist we must all make sure we’re educating ourselves. This can be anything from reading a magazine (Makeup Artist Magazine, On Makeup Magazine) to name a couple, YouTube videos, books or even taking a class. If we all work to empower each other, lift each other and teach each other without prejudice we will become a strong industry of talented and caring artists beating faces and taking names. Lol
