Under Eye Circles Be Gone!!

Those Little Dark Circles Don’t Seem So Small When They’re on your FACE!!

I’ve been asked a lot recently regarding how to get rid of or cover under eye circles so I thought I’d reach back to a previous post I did on another web page and bring on back. Yep, we’re recycling, heating up leftovers, re-posting, however you wanna say it. Lasagna is always better the next day so I’m ok with that. And of course, now I’m hungry.

Ok we are not a football player! Well, I would think that most of us aren’t anyway. And because of this, we would rather not have those pesky little circles under our eyes, am I right? Sure I am! Cuz no matter how funny those meme’s are, those bags are not and never will be…designer.

With that said, let me first start by saying that sleeping with your makeup on not only hurts me (it really does kill me to learn that people do this), it hurts your cause!! Did you know that if you don’t get all of that mascara and eyeliner off of those lids, over time they will actually STAIN your lids? UPPER AND LOWER PEOPLE!! Yeah, not pretty! (think that Seinfeld episode where they looked different in different light…from wow to ew). Don’t act like you didn’t watch Seinfeld and don’t know what I’m talking about either, we all still love Seinfeld.

So, in order to avoid this awkward situation, how bout we go ahead and get some eye makeup remover, a cotton ball and a Q-tip (yes, I’m that serious). Make sure you remove all of your makeup before you turn in for the night. Get in there with your Q-tip so that you can get every bit there is and not wake up with racoon eyes (not attractive) and avoid staining this thin sensitive skin around your pretty peepers!!

Next, you’re going to want to moisturize on a regular basis. Yes REGULAR basis, as in morning and night. Find an eye cream that attends to the problem areas or problems you’re tryin to avoid (ie..puffy, dark, lines etc) and dab dab dab! Your eyes will thank you for it! Here’s a multi-purpose cream that will do everything you could ever want a face cream to do. Embryolisse… Learn it, live it, love it… you’re welcome.

Moving right along, did you know that certain colors are used to correct different problems? Yep, that dang color theory wheel you had to learn in high school art sure comes in handy for us MUA’s!! Doncha wish you paid attention?? Well lucky for you, I’m here to give you some tips on how to use color (and not gobs of it for the love) to cover up your little imperfections until you’ve treated them away 🙂

C__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_1197083_f260

If the problem you’re having is bluish or purplish veins under your eyes and you’ve got light to medium skin tone you’re really going to want to use a peach/salmon concealer dabbed every so lightly. With medium to dark skin you’re going to want to reach out and pick up a yellow/salmon or orange concealer. These are to be used sparingly as you don’t want to have that chalky built up look under those eyes.

For dark brown or deep red circles, with light or medium skin you would use yellow or a very light peachy color and for medium or dark skin, use a yellow (more golden than yellow) or salmon color.

One thing that i find not only brightens up the under eye and top of cheekbone area is a product called “Banana Powder“. It is magic in a bottle! This yellow powder applied sparingly just under the eyes can bring a warm glow and brightness to the face giving the appearance of rest and energy. Ben Nye banana powder can be found at various stores and websites, just google or bing it!! (ooooor just click the words and it’ll take you there)

Now repeat after me…”I will not use a shade too light for my skin to cover up my dark circles, or dark spots.” LOL…

Now off you go my fellow makeup junkies!! Remove, moisturize and dab your little hearts out!!

Did you know??

 Concealer as a Primer.

bobbibrown

You can use concealer as an eyelid primer for your eye shadow! For those of you who don’t use primer before your shadow, you may have no idea what you’re depriving yourself of, I urge you to try it. I think this is a great little tip because of the fact that there are plenty of people out there who DON’T use a primer or even own one but those same people will most likely own concealer. I mean who doesn’t have a little something they want to cover up??

Eve Pearl

Anywhoodles, because there are SOOO many types of concealers out there I will tell you that the concealer that you choose to use as a primer should be either skin toned or white. This will ensure that you will get the truest color out of your shadow.

Here are some to consider that do the job, don’t break the bank, save money because they multitask, save space (again with the multitasking) and will last for EVER. A little goes a long way on these babies 🙂

Fresh Dewy Skin for All! ATTENTION BRIDES!!

20130416_232718000_iOS

Everyone wants the look of fresh dewy (not to be confused with oily) skin. One free of flaws and hyperpigmentation and not in need of concealer or foundation. Truth is it’s attainable but the other part of that truth is that it takes diligence and time. For those of us willing to take the time to care for our skin, I salute you/us/we??

Ever hear your friends (or maybe you utter these words as well) say they were so tired they slept in their makeup? I’m sure we’ve all done this at least once in our lives but let me tell you why this is probably NOT the way you’re going to get the skin you want.

Your skin needs to breathe. It needs air. Yes there are mineral makeup brands out there that brag you can sleep in it but lets face it, your face feels different with makeup on and without it. This “feeling” is what I’m talking about. You can FEEL when your face is clean and breathing and you can feel when it’s not. However, lets pretend that you don’t mind leaving your foundation, powder, bronzer and blush on. Lets also pretend that there is a makeup out there so perfect that it will in fact never make you break out even if you never wash your face and let it breath again. What about eye makeup?

Did you know that one of the reasons that you’re supposed to dab eye cream under and around your eyes with your ring finger is because its the weakest finger on your hand? This is because the skin underneath and around your eyes is so delicate and thin that it needs to be cared for in a particular way. Did you know that the skin is so thin that in fact the eye makeup that you were too tired to take off at night can actually be absorbed leaving a stain which looks like under eye circles? Neutrogena wipes people!!

With all that being said (little food for thought and a spring board for my suggestions) I’d like to point out that you don’t have to buy the most expensive skin care line out there. You simply have to dedicate time to properly wash and moisturize your skin.

Start small, say, Dove soap. Washes your makeup off, cleanses your skin, leaves it feeling clean but not dry. Moisturize, maybe with Aveeno or Neutrogena. They’re light and moisturize and keep your skin from feeling greasy. Lets not neglect those peepers. How about an inexpensive but quality choice like Clinique’s All About Eyes or Even Better Eyes?

all about eyes even better eyes

No matter what brand you use just make sure that you use something to keep your skin looking radiant. Before you know it all you’ll reach for on a hot summer day are sunglasses and lip gloss.

Did You Know?

Did you know?
That some after makeup face sealer can also be used as a primer?! Welp, it’s true. One of my favorites to use for this is Ben Nye Final Seal. With its misty fragrance and light feel it’s an ideal choice for priming as well as sealing!!

It’s made for stage makeup so it’s heavy duty in its effort to keep you waterproof and sweat proof. This is awesome for every day but especially important for big events like weddings, gala’s, prom’s etc.

The frosting on this cake is that this products isn’t going to break the bank either. With sizes ranging from 2 fl oz to 16 fl oz and pricing ranging from $2- $25.50 it is definitely something worth packing in your makeup bag/kit.

Bye bye Yellow Nails!!

Breathable Nail Polish, the wave of the future!!

With everyone getting into what’s natural, organic and pure, it leaves me wondering what about nail polish? I mean we all like to have beautiful healthy nails, or at least have the illusion of them (which is why I think people still get acrylic, yikes). So if you think about it, when you paint your nails, you’re in essence covering the nail with a beautiful color that is also unfortunately suffocating it. Your nails are attached to you, hence being nourished by the air and the food you eat. So aside from eating right, taking your biotin, exercising etc., you want to make sure you’re also taking care of your nails.

Thank you Inglot for also thinking about our nails! With the wide array of colors, you’re bound to find one that works for you.

Not only is it breathable but it’s also water permeable. For those with religious restrictions on what they can wear when they perform these religious rituals this has GOT to be a relief. For the rest of us, it’s just really nice to know that when we change our nail color we won’t find yellow, thick, chipping, ridged , lined nails underneath.

I should also like to not that these do NOT contain toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) or camphor.

Dr. Jart + Pore Minimalist Mask- Look airbrushed by taking care of your skin!

20140925_193406693_iOSSo recently I received in my Birchbox an interesting mask. It clearly stated on the front that it was a black charcoal sheet mask, so you would think I was prepared for what I was about to try out. Before opening I read the package and it proudly boasted that it was good for my type of skin. Pimples, check, Large Pores, Check, Excess Sebum, check. To be honest I don’t think I have excessive sebum but I’m willing to bet that I have it since I’m already 2 out of 3.

So I pull my hair back thinking this charcoal stuff will surely get all over the place, in my hair, probably on my clothes and I don’t know if oxyclean gets out charcoal stains so I’d better be careful on this one. I was home alone and decided it couldn’t be a more perfect time to sit on the couch with a treatment on my face to rejuvenate my skin and get it ready for my day.

20140925_194008878_iOS

I curiously ripped open the top of the package and peeked inside. What in the world?? As I reached in and pulled out the mask I see that they meant exactly what they said, it’s a sheet mask. I mean this thing was like a black slippery piece of smooth material that I can only compare to felt with holes cut into it. Ok, well, I guess this will be less messy than I thought. I unfolded the mask (so weird) and found the flap for the nose (it’s tricky cuz it blends right into the right into the rest of the mask. 20140925_200847154_iOS Ok now to position this thing on my face. Slippery sucker. Ok I’ve got it. There, that wasn’t so bad. Smoothing it down on my face was a small challenge as it seemed as though it was a little too big for my face and so it bubbled up around the edges but whatever, I’m not worried about my edges, I need my really oily zones tackled.

Aaaaaand now I wait. 20 minutes on the timer and I sit on my couch ready to let this magic mask minimize my pores, soak up some oil and make me look refreshed and airbrushed. Ok so honestly I KNOW that one use of any product isn’t going to change my skin so drastically but I’m visualizing my better skin, visualizing what COULD be, so just bare with me.

20140925_194629880_iOS

Tick tock and finally the timer goes off. As always I wonder if I should leave it on even longer to get an extra benefit but I decide to go ahead and follow the directions instead and peel it off.

20140925_194556404_iOS

There was a slippery substance on my skin but it mostly just felt wet. I rinsed my face and patted dry. I have to admit it did feel cleaner than before and a little more moisturized without feeling lotioned up or greasy. I will admit that my skin didn’t LOOK drastically different but I can see how using something like this often along with a really good skin cleansing routine would work wonders.

All in all I’m glad I tried it. It was way less messy than other masks I’ve used, it didn’t smell bad if at all, it was easy clean up and left my skin feeling alive. I almost prefer this kind of mask to other goopy kinds because it actually saves time.

Remember to always clean your skin with a cleanser appropriate for your skin type, use a toner (like witch hazel) right after and always always always moisturize your skin with a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type. These are minimum steps that you should be doing EVERY DAY. And I you’re like me, you will go that extra step and invest in a good eye cream and lip balm to protect that delicate skin around your eyes and on your pout.

Stop back soon for my “fav 5 for fall”!!
