Tips for Brides- Countdown to the big day!

1) Determine your skin type. Here’s how:

Dry Skin: Tends to be clear and sometimes a little stiff and “too small” for your face after washing. Your pores are small and your skin may peel or get red when you’re out in bad weather.

Oily Skin: Usually looks shiny and has visible pores. Your makeup doesn’t usually last all day and you’re prone to breakouts/black heads.

Combination Skin: This is the most common skin type. It usually consists of an oily T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) and the cheeks are dry.

Normal Skin: The lucky ones have this kind of skin type. It’s smooth, soft and perfectly balanced.

2) 6-12 Months prior to your wedding day: Begin a skin care regimen. This should consist of:

  • A proper make up remover
  • Cleanser,
  • Toner
  • Exfoliator
  • Moisturizer

**All should be appropriate for your skin type. Keep in mind that as you age, your skin type will also change. The skin care regimen you had as a teenager, may not be appropriate for you now. Also, make sure your ingesting 8-12 glasses of water per day. It is so good for your skin and will help the overall look on your wedding day.**

3) 4-5 Months Prior: Get ideas on hair styles and make up looks you would consider for your wedding day. If possible, have pictures set aside to show the professionals you hire. This will help them provide you with just the right look.

4) 2-3 Months Prior: Book your make up artist. Keep in mind that artists are booked pretty far in advance so you shouldn’t wait until the last minute to book your artist. Be prepared to put a deposit down so that you can ensure your wedding day is secured. If your artist doesn’t offer a contract, be sure to ask for one. Safe guard your peace of mind by having things in writing and keeping a copy for yourself.

5) 3-4 Weeks Prior: Meet with your MUA (make up artist) to discuss and test the make up for your day. This is an essential process. The last thing you want is to have the MUA do your make up on your wedding day only to decide that you hate what they’ve done and have all of your pictures taken looking that way. If brides maids or mothers of the bride/groom are also having their make up done for the big day, it’s a good idea that they also have a pre-wedding consultation.

(Hint: some brides choose to have this consultation during the day with their brides maids, and they wear the make up out that night for a “night on the town”).

*some MUA’s have a discounted rate for Pre-Wedding Consultations, be sure to ask*

6) 1-2 Weeks Prior: Confirm your appointment. Be sure that time, place and # of women getting their make up done is discussed. Also, be sure that both of you has contact information so that you can reach each other if the need arises.

Soon your big day will arrive and you will be glowing and ready to walk down that isle. Wishing you well as you take the next step into your new life. Congratulations!

Bouncing my way to happiness

So in my desperate search for nothing really, my impulse buying took me to my “always there for me” Amazon Prime account. Honestly they have EVERYTHING so browsing has become second only to Instagram. I stumbled across what looked to be a “beauty blender”. It wasn’t. BUT the fact that it was egg shaped, black and well, a makeup sponge, made me click to read more.

This particular sponge is by a company called Chic Republic. The seller is Motu Collective and it’s fulfilled by Amazon which is just another way of saying “relax and try it, cuz Amazon has your back”. It’s latex free and hypoallergenic! The description states they’re Vegan and Eco Friendly which is a plus in anyone’s book too.

The reviews on this little beauty are actually what made me try it. Well that and the price! I mean can you really beat $6.99 with free prime shipping? I think not!

So I put in my order and waited impatiently as two days went by and I received my little goodie. While I waited however, I did receive an email from the seller. THIS was a first! The seller, Motu Collective, took it upon themselves to reach out to me to not only thank me for my purchase, but to also let me know IN ADVANCE that if I have any issues with their product AT ALL to let them know at once and they will make sure they “fix it” so that I’m satisfied. Talk about customer service!!

Once I had my talons on it I noticed it felt to me like other “egg shaped” sponges I’ve tried in weight and contour. The material however, felt softer. Once I squeezed it a few times under water, it grew to about 2 times its own size!! It was so perfectly fit in my hand it almost felt ergonomic.

So here’s me, do I use liquid, do I use, cream, do I use powder… the answer of course was YES. So as I dabbed my foundation on my skin and started to bounce this little wonder on my face I noticed right away how much it felt like the beauty blender. It quickly, easily and seamlessly blended my foundations, my contours and even my highlights. I used it for my banana powder and for my translucent powder. Everything, flawless. The point fit beautifully into the grooves and hollows of my face, and never once did I see streaking or sponge marks.

As I stood back and took my selfie, I felt satisfied that my little bargain definitely proved to be my new money saving little beauty tool. After I received my sponge, the company reached out again asking how my experience was with their product and welcomed feedback. That’s just not something you see now-a-days. I’ll be purchasing these in large quantities for my kit! (and a few more for myself too).

Eye Creams-amundo!

If you’re anything like me (and if you read my blog I’m thinkin’ you are), you’re probably a bit of a freak about eye creams, face creams, masks and the like.

Today I get an email from Allure giving me a heads up on my new favorite beauty buy that apparently rivals what I currently use!! CETAPHIL has come out with their own eye cream and I’m itching to try it out!!

It’s for all skin types (thank you Lord for that) and it’s a GEL-CREAM with Hyaluronic Acid which is one of my favorite acids ever!

Using it on both the under eye (for brightening and tightening) and on the lid for (smooth hydrated lids) this cream is sure to replace eye creams across the medicine cabinets, er…board. 😊

Remember, makeup is only as good as the skin you put it on, so take care of that epidermis, is the only one you get!

Under Eye Circles Be Gone!!

Those Little Dark Circles Don’t Seem So Small When They’re on your FACE!!

I’ve been asked a lot recently regarding how to get rid of or cover under eye circles so I thought I’d reach back to a previous post I did on another web page and bring on back. Yep, we’re recycling, heating up leftovers, re-posting, however you wanna say it. Lasagna is always better the next day so I’m ok with that. And of course, now I’m hungry.

Ok we are not a football player! Well, I would think that most of us aren’t anyway. And because of this, we would rather not have those pesky little circles under our eyes, am I right? Sure I am! Cuz no matter how funny those meme’s are, those bags are not and never will be…designer.

With that said, let me first start by saying that sleeping with your makeup on not only hurts me (it really does kill me to learn that people do this), it hurts your cause!! Did you know that if you don’t get all of that mascara and eyeliner off of those lids, over time they will actually STAIN your lids? UPPER AND LOWER PEOPLE!! Yeah, not pretty! (think that Seinfeld episode where they looked different in different light…from wow to ew). Don’t act like you didn’t watch Seinfeld and don’t know what I’m talking about either, we all still love Seinfeld.

So, in order to avoid this awkward situation, how bout we go ahead and get some eye makeup remover, a cotton ball and a Q-tip (yes, I’m that serious). Make sure you remove all of your makeup before you turn in for the night. Get in there with your Q-tip so that you can get every bit there is and not wake up with racoon eyes (not attractive) and avoid staining this thin sensitive skin around your pretty peepers!!

Next, you’re going to want to moisturize on a regular basis. Yes REGULAR basis, as in morning and night. Find an eye cream that attends to the problem areas or problems you’re tryin to avoid (ie..puffy, dark, lines etc) and dab dab dab! Your eyes will thank you for it! Here’s a multi-purpose cream that will do everything you could ever want a face cream to do. Embryolisse… Learn it, live it, love it… you’re welcome.

Moving right along, did you know that certain colors are used to correct different problems? Yep, that dang color theory wheel you had to learn in high school art sure comes in handy for us MUA’s!! Doncha wish you paid attention?? Well lucky for you, I’m here to give you some tips on how to use color (and not gobs of it for the love) to cover up your little imperfections until you’ve treated them away 🙂

C__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_1197083_f260

If the problem you’re having is bluish or purplish veins under your eyes and you’ve got light to medium skin tone you’re really going to want to use a peach/salmon concealer dabbed every so lightly. With medium to dark skin you’re going to want to reach out and pick up a yellow/salmon or orange concealer. These are to be used sparingly as you don’t want to have that chalky built up look under those eyes.

For dark brown or deep red circles, with light or medium skin you would use yellow or a very light peachy color and for medium or dark skin, use a yellow (more golden than yellow) or salmon color.

One thing that i find not only brightens up the under eye and top of cheekbone area is a product called “Banana Powder“. It is magic in a bottle! This yellow powder applied sparingly just under the eyes can bring a warm glow and brightness to the face giving the appearance of rest and energy. Ben Nye banana powder can be found at various stores and websites, just google or bing it!! (ooooor just click the words and it’ll take you there)

Now repeat after me…”I will not use a shade too light for my skin to cover up my dark circles, or dark spots.” LOL…

Now off you go my fellow makeup junkies!! Remove, moisturize and dab your little hearts out!!

Did you know??

 Concealer as a Primer.

bobbibrown

You can use concealer as an eyelid primer for your eye shadow! For those of you who don’t use primer before your shadow, you may have no idea what you’re depriving yourself of, I urge you to try it. I think this is a great little tip because of the fact that there are plenty of people out there who DON’T use a primer or even own one but those same people will most likely own concealer. I mean who doesn’t have a little something they want to cover up??

Eve Pearl

Anywhoodles, because there are SOOO many types of concealers out there I will tell you that the concealer that you choose to use as a primer should be either skin toned or white. This will ensure that you will get the truest color out of your shadow.

Here are some to consider that do the job, don’t break the bank, save money because they multitask, save space (again with the multitasking) and will last for EVER. A little goes a long way on these babies 🙂
